Pain associated with maltracking of the patella in the femoral groove. Can lead to subluxation or chondromalacia. Lateral (outside) knee pain, related to irritation and rubbing of the Iliotibial Band on the femoral condyle. May also cause patellar maltracking. Strain or tear to the patellar tendon. Often caused by excessive jumping or running. Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome is the strain or tearing of the soft tissue on the medial (inner) edge of the tibia. Anterior Tibial Syndrome occurs on the anterior (front) edge of the tibia.

Diffuse ache in front of knee. Pain under or around patella, especially when walking stairs. Often accompanied with crepitus (grinding, clicking). Buckling or locking of knee may occur. Pain in the lateral aspect of the knee or lower thigh. Tightness of the iliotibial tract. Pain or discomfort just below patella, especially felt when running or jumping. Pain may be exaggerated when walking stairs. Generally 3"-5"of vertical pain on the medial or anterior edge of the tibia (shin bone).

  1. Wall slides with isometric adduction - "sit" by sliding down a wall to 90 degrees (max) while squeezing a ball between knees. Hold 10-60 seconds, do 5-10 reps.

Goal to strengthen medial quadriceps:
  1. Wall slides (as shown at left)
  2. Lunges - do not allow front knee to pass over toe of foot.

ACHILLES TENDINITIS PLANTAR FASCIITIS CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME LATERAL OR MEDIAL EPICONDYLITIS
Inflammation, strain or tearing of the Achilles tendon. Inflammation, strain, or tearing of the plantar fascia. Compression, pinching or entrapment of the median nerve, blood supply and/or finger flexor tendons of the hand. Strain or tear of the forearm muscle attachments at the point of insertion to the epicondyle (bony prominence) on the elbow.

  1. Stand and balance on one leg.
  2. Seated calf raises-Go up on balls of feet from a seated position.
  3. Standing calf raises-When ready, stand and go up on balls of both feet for 10-20 reps.

  2. Pick up objects (marbles, etc) off of floor with toes.
  3. Crunch towel on floor with toes.
  1. Squeeze rubber ball, moist wash cloth, or a "stress ball" to build grip strength.
  2. Wrist extension- Use 1-4lb weight in hand, with forearm supported on knee or table, palm down, raise weight thru a comfortable range. 10-20 reps.
  3. Wrist flexion-Same as above with palm facing up.

1> Heel Stretch: (as seen in e>). 10-15 seconds and repeat 2-3 times on each leg.
This is a later stage stretch only to promote flexibility. Do not perform this stretch if tendon is still tender or any pain is caused.

2> Calf stretches: Gastrocnemius-Calf (as seen in c>). Gently stretch for 10-15 seconds and repeat 2-3 times on each leg.

3> Calf stretches: Soleus- Calf(as seen in d>). Gentlystretch for 10-15 secondsand repeat 2-3 times on each leg.

1>Apply same three stretches as used for Achilles Tendinitis:

1> Wrist Flexor Stretch (as seen in f>). Gently stretch for 10-15 seconds and repeat 2-3 times on each arm.

2>Prayer Stretch-Put palms together and keep them in contact as you lower hands to elbow level to stretch wrist and finger flexor tendons.
